Mr. LaCorte was always an extremely kind and helpful public servant. He never hesitated to listen to all of the issues facing the aging community and to act to make things a little easier and fairer for everyone in Union County. He was a role model for all of the attorneys and professionals who try to help people through difficult times. We will really miss him.

Jim and I became close friends in college. You always wanted to be around Jim. He was so sharp, funny, clear-headed, and kind but with a self-deprecating edge. Few friends, male or female, in any walk of life, schoolmates or colleagues or neighbors, ever gave me so much joy. He had so much talent and potential, and he realized them to the full. Seeing him just after last Thanksgiving was a great gift I will always remember.

I was shocked when my son Kevin told me of Jim's passing. My mind went back 66 years ago when I first met Jim and his family. As a senior Boy Scout, I had been asked to assist Mrs. La Corte in her role as Den Mother. When I got to their home, she was making sure all was right with Jim's uniform and at the end of the hall the mayor just stood and watched but I could see the look of pride on his face. I would spend many afternoons at their home. My family moved, so I lost touch with Jim. We would meet again as UC parents. Between the activities at the school and driving our kids here and there we would often talk. I realized the Club Scout I knew had growth up to be a very special man. He had become a real gentleman. I never saw Jim after the UC days but talk to him a few times on the phone over the years, the last time was about 4 years ago.
I know you will miss him, but he will always be there looking over you.

Jim was the “best man” at Ben’s and my wedding in June 1963. He was 16 years old and he did a great job He wore his Xavier Uniform and was very handsome. He even made a thoughtful toast that everyone enjoyed. I will look for photos when I get back to NYC.
My thoughts are with you all today. Sorry I couldn’t make the service. Thinking of you. Love “Aunt”
Alice.

It was with a great deal of shock and sadness that we read of the passing of James LaCorte. We worked on a number of campaigns and civic functions associated with Jim during our time in Union County. He was a wonderful and dedicated man who did much for Union County and New Jersey. We are sure he will be greatly missed. Our deepest condolences to his family.
