Mario Da Costa, 93, of Elizabeth, NJ passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 22, 2021.
Mario was born on June 2, 1928, in the village of Crasto in the town of Cepoes, Ponte de Lima, Portugal. At age 10 he went to Lisbon to complete his studies, only to return several years later, and began working on a farm. Upon being of age, he served in the Portuguese military during the Salazar regime. After his active military duty service was concluded, he returned to Lisbon where he began his professional career serving for many years as a chauffeur for the Embassy of Switzerland. After retiring from the embassy he moved to the United States in 1969, and settled in Perth Amboy. He began working at Emerson Quiet Kool, of Avenel, NJ, in 1973 as a technician and retired in 1990 after 17 years. He moved to Elizabeth in 2003 where he lived the remainder of his life.
He is survived by his companion, Teresa Cianfano.
A visitation will be held at the Petruccelli Funeral Home, 232 Christine Street, Elizabeth, NJ on Wednesday, September 1, 2021 from 8-8:45am followed by a Funeral Mass at Saint Anthony of Padua R.C. Church, Elizabeth, NJ. Burial will take place in Portugal.
