Ruth Angeline Girt, 75, of Roselle, NJ, departed this world on June 27, 2025, in her home. She was born August 4, 1949, in Elizabeth, NJ, the daughter of the late Horace Girt and Christine Gustafson Girt, originally from Mt. Vernon, KY. She was preceded in death by her brother and only sibling, Horace Girt.
After a career at Anheuser-Busch in Elizabeth, NJ, Ruth went on to work for Verizon in Livingston, NJ, retiring in October 2018. Even while working full-time, Ruth pursued her passions — joining a bird club, attending the Institute of Culinary Education in New York, and taking cooking classes at Kings in Short Hills. She loved going to the movies, shopping, and traveling. Her most recent adventures included whale watching in Alaska, learning about lacemaking in the United Kingdom, and visiting Austria to see the Lipizzan horses.
Those who knew Ruth will remember her for her generosity, her contagious laugh, and her incredible knack for history. One to live life on her own accord, Ruth believed some rules were meant to be broken.
Ruth is survived by her goddaughter, Jaclyn Odom, and Jaclyn's daughter, Mariah. She leaves behind several close friends and extended family across the country.
A Celebration of Life service will take place on Saturday, August 2, 2025, at 10:30AM at the First Presbyterian Church of Roselle 111 W. 5th Ave. Roselle, NJ. In accordance with her wishes, Ruth was cremated after her earthly departure. Her remains will be returned home to Mt. Vernon, KY, where she will be laid to rest beside her brother.
Ruth's spirit, curiosity, and laughter will be deeply missed by all who had the joy of knowing her.
