Michael A. DeRosa “Mush”. A devoted union man, proud Peterstown native, and loving family patriarch, Michael A. DeRosa, affectionately known as “Mush,” passed away leaving behind a legacy of service, loyalty, and love.
Born on July 8, 1954, in Elizabeth, New Jersey, in the Peterstown section—fondly known as “The Burg”—Michael dedicated his life to both his family and the United Brotherhood of Carpenters.
Initiated into the Carpenters Union on January 14, 1974, Michael proudly served its membership for more than 51 years. His career was marked by tireless dedication and leadership, holding numerous roles including council representative and delegate to Locals 715, 155, and later, Local 254 following the 2011 merger. He further served as an executive board member of Local 254 and the council, as well as a trustee to the Regional Council of Carpenters Funds. Even after retirement, Michael remained committed to the mission and people of the Brotherhood, never ceasing in his advocacy for the members he called family.
To those who knew him, Michael was more than a labor leader—he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, friend, mentor, colleague, and brother. His passions extended beyond the jobsite; he found joy on the golf course, at the beach, while fishing, and in the music of the Grateful Dead. A proud Deadhead, Michael lived with heart and soul, always loyal and always true.
He was predeceased by his beloved parents, Michael and Carmela DeRosa, and his sister-in-law, Joyce DeRosa.
Michael is survived by his cherished wife of 43 years, Lisa DeRosa; his children, Michael DeRosa and wife Nicole, Joseph DeRosa, and Danielle Katz and husband Jason; and his treasured grandchildren, Leo and Ruby Katz, who were the light of his life.
He is also survived by his brothers, Joseph DeRosa and wife Marilyn, and Anthony DeRosa; and his brother-in-law, Joseph Venturini and wife Tina. Michael will be lovingly remembered by his nieces and nephews: Michael DeRosa and wife Liz, Robert DeRosa and wife Allison, Christie Benyola and husband Lenny, Anthony DeRosa and wife Milan, Nicholas DeRosa, Joseph Venturini, and Gianna Venturini. He also leaves behind nine great-nieces and nephews—Emory, Stella, Annabella, Logan, Mia, Christian, Jayda, Max, and Tony—each of whom brought him great pride and joy.
