Aneli Fernandez, 86, of Elizabeth, NJ, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 4, 2025. Born in Guantanamo, Cuba, Aneli immigrated to New York City in 1955. In 1986, she made Elizabeth, NJ, her home, where she lived the remainder of her life. A dedicated and compassionate caregiver, Aneli worked for 20 years at the Church On the Hill Family Daycare Center in New York, NY, nurturing countless children with kindness and warmth. She later continued her work in education as a teacher’s aide at the Christopher Columbus School No. 15 in Elizabeth, NJ, where she devoted 12 years to supporting students and staff before retiring.

Aneli found her greatest joy in the presence of her family. She loved cooking, filling her home with the aromas of her beloved Cuban dishes, and sharing meals with loved ones. Music and dancing were also close to her heart, bringing her endless happiness throughout her life.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 64 years, Oscar Fernandez, and her son, Oscar Yuri Fernandez.

Aneli leaves behind her loving children, Rafael Fernandez and Anely Ninonuevo, along with her son-in-law, Mark Ninonuevo. She was a cherished grandmother to Kristin, Lauren, Xenia, Carolyn, Alexis, and Ivan, and a proud great-grandmother to Barrett, Julia, Annabelle, Angelina, and Rafael.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the memorial service at the Petruccelli Funeral Home, 232 Christine Street, Elizabeth, NJ, on Saturday, February 22, 2025, from 11 AM to 3 PM.
